A recent client conversation stirred the idea in me to introduce a tool that has become quite popular in the last years to a wider array of non-tech savvy folks. It’s a calendar application that unlike other calendar tools, has the ability to synchronize different online calendars and task managers, as well as a bunch of useful third party applications that specialize on task management, networking or event organization.
“Do you have too many things to do to take time to look into new things?”
The Sunrise Calendar App
The Sunrise Calendar App is a free (money & ad) cross-platform calendar app – running on iOS and Android – that syncs multiple calendars spread over many platforms: iCloud (Mac), Google or Exchange. Thus, it can be used on several mobile devices as well as on a desktop.
I am yet to come across a tool that can do so much in terms of bringing together loose ends as Sunrise Calendar does, which is the main reason why I feel it will be a great tool for many stressed out solopreneurs. Why? Because of its integration with several third party applications that people use for their task management, networking, event management and planning, even travel planning.
List of current 3rd party integrations with Sunrise Calendar:
- Google Tasks
Besides these integrations, the Sunrise app offers:
- Time zone support,
- Search function,
- Weather forecast
- Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze for direction searching
- Holiday, sports and TV shows
Syncing all of your calendars, to-do-lists and checklists in one place will be a massive relief for many stressed, overwhelmed and busy people. Efficiency improvements like that can have a significantly positive impact on your lifestyle.
Particularly for business people, it can make all the difference in making self-employment rewarding in the first place. In the last few years, there was an enormous progression towards enhancing the communication between applications. Business automation are now an essential part of streamlining processes and people are getting more and more aware of its benefits.
But like everything else, business automation does have a second side to consider. While applying business automation can help us to significantly reduce man-hours, human errors or delivery time, the increased connectivity means also that there are more opportunities for cyber criminals than ever.
Please allow me to add a side note here.
I am very open to the demand of simplifying things, and of doing things efficiently. But I am also a proponent of using caution and strengthen awareness of possible side effects, which – by the way – are the crucial components for making informed decisions.
Business automation certainly does have disadvantages, and we all should be very conscious about what we are trying to get accomplished and what we are giving up for that. Speaking about digital carelessness, if you don’t apply appropriate security measures to how you use services, one day you could wake to find yourself very disillusioned about how everything has crumbled before your eyes. More technology doesn’t mean more relief.
“Technology can extend in any direction. It’s how we use these tools that determine if they’re good or bad.”
Make sure you use secure passwords.
Passwords like 123456 or passw0rd do not fall into this category.
Also, if you cannot memorize your passwords, don’t store them on your computer’s hard drive. It’s simply not a good strategy in case your hard drive suddenly dies or even gets hijacked. (Yes, these things do happen!)
Digital carelessness can also be conquered by doing regular backups of your most important files and website data.
Technology has the potential to change the way we live, work and communicate. It has the potential to change our interactions on the deepest social levels. It has the potential to be an evolutionary catalyst. It is vital for survival – for our civilization and for your business and mine.
If you manage to get a hand on it and familiarize yourself with how to make the best use of such a progressive application like the Sunrise Calendar and the integrations it deploys – and still stay aware of using your digital interactions in a responsible and meaningful way, you are not only on track to work with more efficiency, but also to do business consciously.
There are endless possibilities of making a business more efficient and the path of self-employment more joyful. Streamlining business processes is a topic I often talk about in Clarity Sessions with my clients. In a session I listen to the particular needs, challenges and goals a client has, and suggest tools and approaches to implement a solution. I am also setting up automated business workflows to help make a client’s system work more efficiently. Should this be of any interest for you, feel free to contact me via the form below or schedule a Clarity Session with me.
